Reflection

My engagement the Kim Kardashian Hollywood game (my screenshot)

Through my research on Kim Kardashian Hollywood, I have found out that mobile app gaming is much more complex that it originally seemed. I’ve come across many different ideas and arguments that can help explain the phenomena behind Kardashians’ success. Before writing this essay I had never looked that much into ideology theorists, it has given me a chance to explore more of a sociology aspect towards media. This in turn opened my eyes to how the media operates on a larger scale as sociological aspects play a large part in influencing the media and vice versa. Researching this essay has also helped me explore participatory culture to a larger extent. I’ve managed to learn more in detail about the different types of fans and users and how they work across different platforms such as YouTube or other social media. It was surprising to me how much news coverage this game got across news platforms, I didn’t expect Kardashian to reach the age ranges it did with this game, as not just teens and young adults were playing it. By writing this essay it helped me understand more how I interact with games and social media. Previously I had never doubted the reason as to why I was playing Kim Kardashian Hollywood, but now I understand that there are many reasons that attracted me particularly the talk of it on social media. In understanding this it has helped me appreciate the effect that social media has and the influence it has when it comes to participating in trends and also the influence it has on power across other platforms. My engagement with mobile games and social media platforms will now be broader as I now know the extent to which others can use it, and this will allow me to now explore other users’ experiences.
